This site is intended to become a
comprehensive catalogue of Air Force Memorials in the UK relating
to World War 2, however it is currently UNDER CONSTRUCTION, and probably always
will be. All Counties under current survey are listed
in the main menu. Click on the thumbnails for a full
view.
Welcome to this Catalogue of Memorials to fallen WW2 Airmen.
This site will eventually be (I hope) a catalogue of all the
UK memorials to the (Allied) aircrew who died during World War 2.
I can't find a single comprehensive list, so I'm making one
myself, and as you have to start somewhere and I live in Bomber
County (AKA Lincolnshire,) I've started my catalogue there. Note that
memorials only appear that I've visited in person.
When I began searching the Country I was expecting to find RAF
memorials, but soon realised that there are also USAAF, RCAF, RAAF, Polish Air
Force and so on; I figure it was all one conflict and so I'm listing them
all in one place.
You'll see a few Luftwaffe sites and graves too; despite everything I feel
about the instigators of the conflict, I can't help feeling sorrow for
the ordinary fighting men who died over a foreign country.
I would like help; please tell me about
any memorials I've missed in any of the Counties I've covered, and I'll get
out to them and take some photos as soon as I can.
I'm intending to work down and up the East Coast first, but I'll certainly
get round the rest eventually. And note that churches are driving me nuts
as, sadly, they are hardly ever open.
